After having three weeks off fishing due to moving house I decided to book a few days off work and head down to Yorkshire in search of a few Carp and a chance of hooking a monster Catfish.
Having kept an eye on the weather forecast in the days leading up to the trip I knew it wasn’t exactly going to be nice. And so it proved, when I met my friend and photographer Bob Lee at a services a short way from the lake on a miserable Monday morning. It was, as the papers called it,...

Hi to everyone, This is my first blog for the Gulp bait army, Straight to the point ,my name is Paul.
I'm mad about all types of fishing I have 5 kids , 3 boys 2 girls, a very understanding partner. I like to get out fishing as often as possible, even in terrible weather! Putting bivvies’ away wet is a nightmare but a price we have to pay sometimes. Well after getting some gulp bait delivered, I went along with a mate to a local venue, this is what happened.

River Carping Back to my Roots By Tim Swain

Like so many of us, my passion for angling started as a child fishing small local ponds and rivers with my brother Andy. We used to fish a small river close to us in the late 70’s early 80’s. Most of the time we would be float fishing for bream, roach and tench.
Once in a blue moon I would hook something that would strip my reel of line and snap me up in a blink of an eye. I would cycle home to my parents with tales of this mythical creature that could not be landed. That wa...

Plaice at the double......

Colin Jones landed an amazing double shot of Plaice during a Flamer IV Flatty League match. Colin’s double shot of Plaice consisted of Plaice weighing 5Ib 14oz and 5Ib 4oz making a double of Plaice weighing over 11Ib.They certainly put a bend in Colin's rod who thought he had hooked a monster Plaice. Colin’s catch is the biggest double shot of Plaice recorded on Flamer IV. Colin was using 10Ib class tackle with a two hook trace that had lots of coloured attractor beads on. Th...

Catching in the rain........Steve Phipps

Why does it always rain on me? Not only a great song by the band Travis but also a very relevant statement for the majority of my fishing trips (and most of Britain 80% of the year).
I arrived at my club lake at 8am Monday morning having sat in traffic for the best part of an hour only for the heavens to open and completely drench me on the long walk from car to swim, not the best start to the session at all, but I was set for 72 hours on the bank and nothing was going to ...

A bad day on the bank is better than a good day at work!
I am lucky enough to have a week off as I am starting a new job soon and what better way to spend it than on the bank, a day session today then a 72 hour stint next week.
I arrived at the lake at around 8am this morning only to find the world and his wife were already there, luckily the swim next to my favourite was free so that was good enough for me.
I've recently been lucky enough to be signed up for the Berkley...

A rare event in my world as running my own business takes up so much time, so the opportunity of fishing a new venue with a couple of good friends could not be missed.
An early start to arrive at Crown Neveral Fisheries in Essex was the plan. I managed to arrive at 6.30am on a very wet July Monday morning. The lake was well up with a number of swims un-fishable due to the amount of recent rain. Keith and Mick were already set up having fished one night, Mick had managed five...

Having been to Suffolk Water Park on a couple of occasions for carp shows and having seen footage on TV, I could not resist an overnight on another new venue. Fellow foot soldiers Keith Standley and Mick Henley were planning a three day session with two nights. I arrived Monday evening at around 6pm, the weather had finally improved and the sun was out, a good breeze was blowing down towards the shallows so I decided to fish the slightly deeper water in the hope the fish woul...

On a recent carp adventure down south in County Cork, I took time out on one spare evening to chase Rudd-Bream hybrids, and in particular, specimens over the three pound mark. The evening was humid and calm, almost breathless, the perfect scenario for a specimen or two. My good angling mate, Sid Kennedy had been pre-baiting an area for a few days and the hybrids were apparently queuing up! Although Sid had caught many specimens from this venue already this year, he joined me ...
